Determining Differences

  • The Student's t Distribution t tests are used to see how likely a mean comes from a given distribution or, more often, whether two means come from the same distribution.  This applet illustrates through sampling distributions of the t statistic to examine what it takes to use this test to make conclusions. (Straight to applet)
  • The F Distribution The Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) uses the F statistic to determine of there exist differences when more than two means are being compared.  This statistics ultimately computes the ratio of two variances.  This applet illustrates through sampling distributions of the F statistic to examine what it takes to use this test to make conclusions.
